  • honeymoon highlights

    MAUI

    • staying at a funky retro/sixties ghetto condo and listening to the incessant dog barking next door
    • watching the u.s. open and agassi’s quarter and semi-final games
    • lahaina (HUGE banyan tree in front of old courthouse)
    • pat driving scary one lane roads and looking at the water below! 
    • stopping at julia’s world famous banana bread stand (YUMMY!)
    • driving to the summit of haleakela  
    • silverswords 
    • going snorkeling at molokini/turtle town
    • eating at buzz’s wharf


    BIG ISLAND

    • HAWAII VOLCANOES NATIONAL PARK
    • having a national parks pass rocks
    • aa
    • pahoehoe
    • staying in volcano, HI (like 5 MINUTES away from the park)
    • rain, rain and more rain
    • banyan drive in hilo
    • lyman museum with an AWESOME mineral collection that had a phallic malachite specimen (sorry no pictures)
    • steam vents
    • halemaumau and inhaling sulphur fumes
    • hiking kilauea iki
    • thurston lava tube
    • hiking on basalt at night
    • seeing the lava flow glow at night (will post a pix later… pat has WAAAAAAAAY better ones of this…)
    • nene (hawaii’s state bird)
    • driving to kailua-kona
    • stopping at south point (the southernmost place in the U.S.)
    • black sand beach and seeing turtles
    • mauna loa macadamia nut factory and good deals on gifts
    • hilo hattie last minute shopping and free gifts (with expensive purchase)
    • 9 mosquito bites at rainbow falls
    • pe’e pe’e falls and boiling pots (ran away from the mosquitos)
    • relaxing…and watching TLC all day
    • seeing p. diddy or whatever you call him now on martha stewart
    • seeing rainbows almost every day and rays of light shining through the clouds
    • petroglyphs
    • tree molds
    • hiking puu huluhulu and seeing pu’u o’o in the distance smoking away…
